Mental Overload

How to rest an overworked mind.
Mental Overload

A while back, I was venting to a friend because I felt mentally exhausted all the time. Not just tired…overloaded. I felt like I had so many important things I needed my brain for, but somehow I couldn’t access the mental energy to actually focus or think clearly.

As we talked, he pointed something out that completely shifted my perspective:

I was trying to learn something every minute of the day.

The second I woke up, I was listening to podcasts.
If I wasn’t working, I was reading articles, consuming content, researching, learning, improving, growing.
While none of those things are “bad,” my brain never had a chance to rest or process.

He suggested something simple:

Listen to music sometimes.

Sit outside and notice the birds.

Drive in silence.

Let your mind breathe.

At first, it almost felt unproductive… but honestly, it helped more than I expected.

We live in a world that constantly tells us to consume more information, improve faster, and optimize every moment. But mental energy is still energy. Your brain needs quiet moments the same way your body needs sleep.

A few things that have helped me recharge mentally:

• Going for walks without listening to anything

• Spending less time multitasking

• Taking short breaks between tasks instead of jumping immediately into the next thing

• Getting outside and grounding back into the present moment

• Prioritizing sleep and hydration

• Doing something creative or playful with no goal attached to it

• Allowing moments of silence instead of filling every empty space

Sometimes the answer isn’t learning more.

Sometimes the answer is creating enough space for your mind to actually absorb, process, and recover.

If you’ve been feeling mentally drained lately, this might be your reminder that your brain deserves rest too.
